Getting Here

Mallard Grange Self Catering Boltholes are located on a working beef, sheep and arable farm, located off the B6265, 3 miles West of Ripon between the entrance to Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre and the turn off for Aldfield Village.  N.B. SatNav's will often misdirect into Aldfield Village, so watch for the farm sign.

Car Parking

The approach is down a private farm lane (not tarmacked) leading to a tarmacked area in front of a stone barn.  The parking area is shared with guests staying in the Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast.  The surface in level to walk on and is well lit at night.  There is a sign for The Nestbox with an arrow pointing to a slightly sloping pathway between two stone barns.  This leads to a lawned area with a path leading to The Nestbox - there are 3 steps down on the path.

From the car parking area there is a sign for The Nestbox with an arrow pointing to a slightly sloping pathway between two stone barns.  This leads to a lawned area with a path leading to The Nestbox - there are 3 steps down on the path. 

At the entrance to The Nestbox there are 3 steps up to a black half glassed door.  A self check in box holding the door key is positioned on the wall at the right side of the door.  The entry code is sent before arrival.

Inside

Inside The Nestbox is mainly open plan with the exception of the bathroom which has a large walk in shower, toilet, handbasin, heated towel rail and storage cupboard. 

The Hideout Loft

Entrance

Entrance to The Hideout Loft is to the rear of a large stone barn, where guests staying in the Hideout Loft car park their car.  There is a black metal staircase with one flight of vertical run of 10 stairs with railings and handrail at either side.  This leads to a metal balcony with metal rails surrounding it.  A self check in box holding the door key is positioned on the wall at the right side of the wooden entrance door.  The entry code is sent before arrival.  

Inside

Inside The Hideout Loft is mainly open plan with the exception of the bathroom which has a free standing bath, a separate rainfall shower, toilet and hand basin.  There is a heated towel rail and underfloor heating in the bathroom which has a tiled floor.

 

The Hideout Loft has two low original beams which run across the width of the loft and although they are beautiful  and add to the character of the space, they may pose a bit of a problem for tall guests.   

Fire Safety Information

Both The Nestbox and The Hideout Loft are accessed with a key, but have new door locks fitted so that they are locked from the inside with a turn fob and not a key, to allow quick exit compile with Fire Regulations.  Both units have wired in smoke alarms and heat detectors and both are equipped with fire blankets and the relevant fire extinguishers.  The Nestbox has a gas hob, so also has a carbon monoxide alarm.  Both units has have gas water heaters to ensure a plentiful supply of hot water; both boilers are serviced by a Registered Gas Engineer annually.  Heating in both units is by electric heaters.

Nestbox Only:  When using the fire pit on the gravelled area outside The Nestbox, guests must refer to the fire stay instructions provided in the information folder and use the fire pit responsibly, taking care to ensure the safety of our property and at their own risk.
